About Me

We live in a society that is focused more and more on solution finding and the often catastrophic repression of feelings. Many people who come to see me feel oppressed by the constant social demand to appear happy and positive. I harbour a position of deep respect for my clients' experiences through listening attentively and being willing to engage with their difficulties and suffering and to accompany them in their journey. Research has shown that clients who have a positive experience of the therapeutic relationship are those who are much more likely to benefit from psychotherapy. I work in a relational way, which means engaging in a unique therapeutic relationship with each of my clients.

Since qualifying as a therapist in 2002, I have worked with a variety of issues such as difficulties in the couple relationship such as loss of intimacy, conflict, infidelity and polyamory, cultural diversity and difference, infertility, pregnancy and motherhood, sadness, loss and mourning, dilemmas, conflicts and anxiety, sexual risk and diversity as well as self harm, self destructive behaviour and suicidal thoughts. The way I practise is informed by psychoanalytic theory, but I am also interested in existential thinking, especially in the sense of prioritising subjective experience over theory. My priority is to understand the issues that bring somebody to therapy and to begin from a position of respect for the client's past and present struggles as well as thoughtful engagement with the patterns that begin to emerge through the therapy work. I am UKCP registered.

Before training as a therapist, I studied for a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge, which provided me with an in depth understanding of cultural issues and the importance of the social context. I have a number of publications in anthropology and psychotherapy in various journals, including three co-edited books. My third co-edited book  'The Mother in Psychoanalysis and beyond: Matricide and Maternal Subjectivity' (with Rosalind Mayo) has been published by Routledge in September 2016. My collection of fictional short stories in adolescence and the consulting room has been published by Routledge in 2018. In 2018, I have also published my novel, Layers in Greek and in English.
